Kal's ramblings

No fancy pictures today, just a bit of ramblings.  So I have been working on getting the garden ready to plant.  Running into some sources of frustration though.  We have been talking about the "Back to Eden" philosophy of gardening.  I'm not going to go to in depth about it, so if you are interested check out http://www.backtoedenfilm.com for more info.  The basic premise is to garden with some form of ground covering.  This helps retain moisture in the soil, attracts worms and bugs, and makes weeding much simpler.  So with that in mind I have been contacting numerous tree service companies looking for some chipped trees, like trucks loads of it.  These companies have to pay to dump this stuff, so I figured a free place to dump would be a no brainier.  This is proving rather difficult.  So, having to get the garden in, I need a covering.

I have decided to start out using leaves as our ground cover.  I figure I have plenty of those laying around out in the woods.  I will be loading and moving wheelbarrows full of leaves back and forth for a while over the next few weeks.  Onto frustration number two.  The weather is not cooperating at all.  It is supposed to be raining off and on for the next three days, so shoveling wet leaves in the rain does not sound like my idea of fun.  However, since I don't have a shredder, which I have read are not that great anyways, I will be using the line trimmer to shred them up.  That on the other hand, does sound like fun.

Well, I suppose that is it for me for tonight.  Heading off to an outdoorsmans meeting, where we have good food, good fellowship, and hear a great message.

God bless.

Sharing what we know AND what we are learning

Hello World~

Over the past few years our family has been through, what others might consider to be, terrible times. We don't think that they are all terrible though. Even the bad. We have a saying in our house: IIWII It Is What It Is! With that being said, we have been through our fair share of medical problems, financial problems, marital problems and we are currently hitting that wonderful season within our family known as "The teenage years". Aren't you jealous?? Thankfully during all these times we have had the help of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without Him, everything we are trying to do would not be possible.

That brings us to our current life. We have 3 children and we want a farm. We want to live off the land. In all reality if we were able to completely live of the land and off the "grid", WE WOULD! We joke about being born into the wrong century. I can live without A/C, Heat, phones and internet. We recently got internet after a 2 year life without it. Although we didn't really miss it, we figured that with homeschooling the kids, it might be a good idea to get some sort of internet at the house. We have over the air TV that we rarely watch, it turns on for news and some TV shows that we could take or leave.

Anyway, that is a small part of our back story. Here is the current. We are planning to purchase the house that we have been renting for over 6 years. It is in the middle of nowhere with land and peace. We have 3 Yellow Belly Slider turtles that serve no purpose other than to be there. We also have a new puppy. His name is Lincoln and he is 3 months old and a wild little guy. Recently we built our rabbit hutch to breed and process meat rabbits. That is very exciting for us. We still have a few other things to do before we are up and running.

Here are our children Lilly, Gabriel and Sadie:
