How Sad???

It is 2:44 am and I am awake. I took a nap yesterday and I guess that was all that I needed for the next 24 hours!

I realized that I had completely forgotten that Kal and I started this blog. We had such high hopes of sharing our somewhat odd life with those around us. We tend to do things a little bit different than most. I remember being so excited to share that oddness with others. We hoped that people would get something out of it.

Let's see. We got a truck. That has been helpful.

We got our rabbits and have tried several times to breed them but it seems as if it is way more difficult than we planned. Rabbits are such funny little things. We have had the hardest time just trying to tell their genders. We started by marking their ears with a sharpie. Somewhere along the way, they were not marked right. Our buck (at least the one that we think is the buck) has a G and a J on his ears. J for Jack because that is his name and G because I thought that he was a Girl at first. On the weekends we have put what we believe to be the buck in with one of the does. I have to admit, we have chairs in front of the rabbit hutch and I feel as if we are watching bunny porn. It just doesn't seem to be working out for them. I told Kal that I think we have a dud. He seems to just want to hump their faces and that is not going to get us any baby bunnies! Well a week ago, Kal went to feed them in the evening and started running around (as much as he can :)) that we needed to figure out a nesting box because the one that we think is Snow, was pulling out her hair and making a nest. That is a sign of labor! I didn't even realize she was pregnant!! We figured out a nesting box and added hay. She added more hair and then.....NOTHING! It has been 6 days and we have pretty much decided that she was in what they call a "false pregnancy" BOO! So we might try with the other doe, Peaches, this weekend. If not, then we are going to have to hold off another few months before attempting to breed because we will be out of town during the holidays and I don't want to have to worry about if we have enough time to process and all that jazz.

We got our chickens! We currently have 13 hens. We get between 1 and 3 eggs a day depending on who is in the mood. The kids have named a few. Red Beard, she is our best layer but she is so mean, Rose, she is our top hen and lays when she wants, Goldilocks and Goldfish are 2 of the buffs, then we have Baby Buff, Midget, and Rooster Hen (we were not sure if it was a rooster or a hen). Hopefully, by middle of fall, we should have all of them laying. Except Midget, I am not sure what kind of chicken that is, but she is so tiny that she is not really good for anything. She has not grown since we got her.

We plan to build another coop in the next few weeks to get some meat birds. That will be yet another adventure.

And lastly, hunting season is approaching and I can actually say that I am very excited. Let me interrupt this marriage for a few months, brought to you by...hunting! I am totally okay with that because I want my freezer full of meat!

I guess that is all that I have for today. Maybe Kal will post soon and share some pictures. Lincoln is getting so large! He is a good puppy. He came out to the kitchen, where I am, about 12:30 am and I let him out. He came right back in and walked to the bedroom and climb up on Kal. He really loves him. I tell Kal all the time, "you created a lap monster", and it is so true. Lincoln just wants to lay on him.

It is 3:10 am and I think that I might try to go to sleep. I am glad I remembered this blog. :)

God Bless
